Introducing our Maple Wood Candle Tin Coaster, featuring a delicate Humming Bird Motif.
Crafted from solid Hard Maple, this coaster features an intricately detailed hummingbird design at its centre, encircled by a ring of leaves and flowers. While the hummingbird motif is inspired by Native American art, it has been reimagined with a modern twist. If you look closely at the photos, you’ll appreciate the fine details of the bird's design, which adds an artistic touch to this functional piece.
Hard Maple is renowned for its beautiful closed grain structure (unlike the open grain texture of woods like oak), resulting in an exceptionally smooth, refined finish. This is a truly tactile piece that invites you to pick it up and admire its craftsmanship, making it just as delightful to hold in your hand as it is to use as a coaster.
This coaster has been polished and finished with beeswax.
The coaster measures 100mm in diameter and 20mm tall
This coaster is part of a limited series designed exclusively for Alice Loves Crafting by Anura Joinery. Each coaster is double-sided, with the top featuring an inset, resin-filled design and a circular slot tailored to securely hold a 63mm essential oil candle tin. The reverse side is shaped to accommodate our larger fragrance oil candle tins.
Anura Joinery is dedicated to creating truly unique pieces. Each design is crafted only once per wood species, ensuring that while someone else may own a dragonfly design in a different wood, no one else will ever own another quite like yours.
The crafting process begins by carving a smooth depression to fit the larger candle tins, followed by cutting circular blanks from solid wood. A laser engraver then etches a 2mm-deep design into the wood, including the small candle tin slot.
Once the engraving is complete, the design is filled with resin (usually black with a subtle sparkle). After the resin sets, it is carefully sanded down, the coaster’s edges are rounded, and the entire piece is polished with six grades of sandpaper for a silky-smooth surface and a glossy finish. Finally, each coaster is treated with beeswax on a polishing wheel, enhancing both its tactile appeal and visual elegance.
Whilst we will never sell another copy of your chosen coaster to anyone else, Anura Joinery had confirmed that they will be happy to replicate your chosen coaster if you would like to purchase more than one.
About Hard Maple wood
In tree form, hard maple is usually referred to as sugar maple, and is the tree most often tapped for
maple syrup. (It’s also the state tree in four different states in the US.) Also called rock maple, its wood may be fairly considered as the king of the Acer genus. Its wood is stronger, stiffer, harder, and denser than all of the other species of maple commercially available in lumber form.
Colour/Appearance: Unlike most other hardwoods, the sapwood of hard maple lumber is most commonly used rather than its heartwood. Sapwood colour ranges from nearly white, to an off-white cream colour, sometimes with a reddish or golden hue. The heartwood tends to be a darker reddish brown. Birdseye maple is a figure found most commonly in hard maple, though it’s also found less frequently in other species. Hard maple can also be seen with curly or quilted grain patterns.
Grain/Texture: Grain is generally straight, but may be wavy. Has a fine, even texture.
Sustainability: This wood species is not listed in the CITES Appendices or on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. Hard Maple is an abundant tree and is actively planted and managed. All Hard Maple is considered to be 100% sustainable.
