"Flame & Flower" is the first of our candle coasters crafted from solid oak. This coaster showcases a delicate flower motif surrounded by a twisted border, adding both elegance and charm.
The coaster is made from solid oak, with the wood’s trademark open grain providing a sturdy, natural feel in your hand. The rich, dark grain structure is not only visible but also tactile, allowing you to feel its depth when you pick it up.
This coaster has been polished and finished with bees wax.
The coaster measures 100mm in diameter and 20mm tall.
This coaster is part of a limited series designed exclusively for Alice Loves Crafting by Anura Joinery. Each coaster is double-sided, with the top featuring an inset, resin-filled design and a circular slot tailored to securely hold a 63mm essential oil candle tin. The reverse side is shaped to accommodate our larger fragrance oil candle tins.
Anura Joinery is dedicated to creating truly unique pieces. Each design is crafted only once per wood species, ensuring that while someone else may own a “flame & flower” design in a different wood, no one else will ever own another quite like yours.
The crafting process begins by carving a smooth depression to fit the larger candle tins, followed by cutting circular blanks from solid wood. A laser engraver then etches a 2mm-deep design into the wood, including the small candle tin slot.
Once the engraving is complete, the design is filled with resin (usually black with a subtle sparkle). After the resin sets, it is carefully sanded down, the coaster’s edges are rounded, and the entire piece is polished with six grades of sandpaper for a silky-smooth surface and a glossy finish. Finally, each coaster is treated with beeswax on a polishing wheel, enhancing both its tactile appeal and visual elegance.
Whilst we will never sell another copy of your chosen coaster to anyone else, Anura Joinery had confirmed that they will be happy to replicate your chosen coaster if you would like to purchase more than one.
About oak wood
Color/Appearance: Heartwood is a light to medium brown, commonly with an olive cast. Paler sapwood is not always sharply demarcated from the heartwood. Quartersawn sections display prominent ray fleck patterns (see images below). Red oak (Quercus rubra) tends to have a slightly redder cast (as opposed to olive), but colour alone isn’t always a reliable method of determining the type of oak.
Sustainability: This wood species is not listed in the CITES Appendices, and is reported by the IUCN as being a species of least concern.
